RTR (A)

OUR COURSES

ABOUT RTR (A)

Taught to you directly by Capt. Soumil Taran. Starting November (or December) 2025, the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil
Aviation) will officially take over the RTR (A) exam, which until now has been
conducted by the WPC (Wireless Planning & Coordination) wing. This shift is
meant to integrate RTR (A) with the rest of the pilot licensing framework under
DGCA, streamline processes, reduce delays, and bring better standardization and
transparency.

Under the new regime:
• The written exam will be held at key centres: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata.
• The oral / viva / practical component (Part II) may initially be conducted only
in Delhi, with plans to expand to other centres later.
• Exam frequency will increase—initially once every three months, and
eventually possibly every two months.
• Also, a DGCA Computer Number will become mandatory to register for this
exam, aligning RTR (A) with other DGCA exams.

New / Revised Syllabus & Exam Pattern : Rs.35,000

While the full official syllabus is still being finalized, some key changes and expectations include:

• The syllabus will be more tightly aligned with aviation communication standards, with an emphasis on practical ATC phraseology, distress / urgency communications, proper radio procedures, radio equipment knowledge, frequency selection, and propagation.

• The exam will likely retain two parts: a written theory portion and a viva/ practical portion (radio circuits, simulated R/T communications) similar to the WPC model.

Topics expected to be covered:

• International Telecommunication Conventions, Radio Regulations, and ‘Q’ code usage

• Standard radio telephony procedure, phraseology, distress/urgency calls, direction finding

• Radio principles: wavelength, frequency, propagation, interference, range limitations

• Radio equipment operations, intercom systems, SCR, microphone/headphone use, etc.
