ABOUT CPL GROUND CLASSES
The DGCA CPL Ground Classes form the foundation of a
pilot’s theoretical training in India. These classes cover
essential aviation subjects including Meteorology, which helps
students understand weather patterns and their impact on
flight; Air Navigation, which focuses on route planning,
position fixing, and flying accuracy; Air Regulations, which
teach the rules and procedures that ensure aviation safety;
Technical General, which covers the working principles of
aircraft systems; and Technical Specific, which focuses on the
specific aircraft type a student will train on. These subjects are
mandatory to clear for obtaining a Commercial Pilot License
(CPL) in India. However, students who choose to pursue their
flying training abroad are required to clear only Meteorology,
Air Navigation, and Air Regulations as per DGCA
requirements. At Appleton Aviation Academy, we provide

Air Regulations
Learn the rules and procedures that govern aviation operations in India and worldwide. This subject ensures every pilot understands air law, licensing requirements, and flight safety standards as per DGCA and ICAO norms.
Air Navigation
Master the art of navigating an aircraft using maps, instruments, and calculations. Students learn about position fixing, route planning, timespeed-distance calculations, and how to safely guide an aircraft from one point to another.
Meteorology
Understand the science of weather and how it affects flight operations. This subject teaches how to interpret weather charts, forecasts, and patterns—helping pilots make safe and informed flight decisions.
Combined Courses
Technical General
Gain an in-depth understanding of aircraft systems and principles of flight. Topics include aerodynamics, engines, electrical systems, instruments, and other vital components that keep an aircraft operational and safe.
Technical Specific
Focuses on the technical details of the specific aircraft type a student will fly during training. It prepares future pilots to understand aircraft performance, systems, and limitations specific to their training aircraft.
